We are pleased to offer the third course in a series relating to dysfunctions of the brain presented by WHN favorite, Dr.John Millar.
In the first series, From Absent-minded to Alzheimer’s, we examined materia medica and cases as they relate to memory and cognitive function, with an in-depth look at various forms of dementia.
In the next course, A Homeopathic Approach to the Spectrum of Learning Disabilities, we explored the spectrum of learning disabilities, with a discussion of various possible causations and a look at the microbiome.
In this new 6-week series, we continue our exploration with cases and materia medica as they relate to acquired brain injuries.
These sessions will prepare you to be far more effective when you encounter these difficult cases in practice.
More About the Course:
Acquired brain injuries can result from of a number of factors. Infections, mechanical trauma, stroke – either thrombotic or hemorrhagic, and hypoxia, regardless of the causation, can all lead to changes in the quantitative and qualitative functioning of the brain. The results of such varied injuries can range from mild and recoverable symptoms such as memory loss to more severe manifestations such as changes in personality, epilepsy and cerebral palsy.
In 2021, there were an estimated 20.84 million incident cases and 37.93 million prevalent cases of traumatic brain injury (TBI) worldwide.
As defined by the National Institute of Mental Health, incidence is a measure of the number of new cases of a characteristic that develop in a population in a specified time period; whereas prevalence is the proportion of a population who have a specific characteristic in a given time period, regardless of when they first developed the characteristic.
Stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI) are the two most common causes of acquired brain injury, yet there are vast differences in our knowledge of their epidemiology. We shall therefore put our emphasis on these two types.
We shall also look at the homeopathic approach to post encephalitis, hypoxia and carbon monoxide poisoning. Time permitting we hope to look at some of the principle remedies for trauma induced seizures and cerebral palsy resulting from birth trauma.
Conditions that will be covered include:
- Concussion
- Apoplexy
- Post Encephelitis/Meningitis syndromes
- Hypoxia, drowning, suffocation, strangulation
- Epilepsy and seizures as they relate to Acquired Brain Injury
- Brains tumors and brain dysfunction
